Summer has been around for a bit, so why don't we settle down cooling our heels while watching a summer drama?
an old summer drama actually, but who cares, right? It's Ayase Haruka!
Hotaru no hikari is a drama about a girl named Amemiya Hotaru. Hotaru is a diligent employee at the office, but a very lazy gal in her own home. Funny story about that home, she borrowed it from a bar owner who likes to travel, and she borrowed it forever (it's in the contract).
Okay, not really funny. Let's get back to lazy.
Apparently, she's the type of gal who according to her co-workers named as 干物女 or according to the literal translation, dried fish woman. It means a woman who abandons love while she is still young, if you don't understand. They're typically love to lay around in the house, too lazy to keep her room tidy, too lazy to party outside or have dates, snacks in one hand and canned beer in another, scratching butt (is that forbidden?), rolling around on the floor, using newspaper as blanket, etc etc etc.
Apparently, not very Ayase, no? but she pulled it off quite good!
Amemiya Hotaru the lazy version, plain tees, jersey, and hairband
Amemiya Hotaru the employee version, stylish clothes and hardworking
Then we have another character, Seichii Takano the ぶちょお. He moved into the house after a wrecked marriage where he had to leave his wife and in need of a new place to stay. But he's also the boss of Amemiya's department, though he never noticed the girl that much.
Guess who took the role? It's that super boring guy that almost snatched Nagasawa Masami from YamaP in Proposal Daisakusen! I almost turned off the player because of him, thinking he'd have the same level of being boring lol.
the boss! Still keeping that hairstyle, eh?
Turned out the boss was the son of the bar owner, so he had the right to the house. But Amemiya of course, refused to leave, otherwise we wouldn't have a story...
the very first time they met in the house, the boss was looking for a 10 inch pole to poke at that thing...
After some lol worthy events, it turned out that there was a new employee having a crush on our clueless Hotaru. He even took a sneak attack and kissed the girl! Fortunately, he was no Alex Onizawa, so his action didn't make into newspaper and his band didn't kick him out (and no, he didn't grope Hotaru, too bad)
Teshima Makoto, for some reason he reminds me of Nishikido, very much, is that a common type of face?
But to make the drama more interesting, we have one more character to go into the awkward love relationships! It's the admirable girl, the one who was beautiful in every situation and condition, i'm still thinking Ayase was too pale in comparison with this girl.
Yuuka the 素敵女子, truly admirable
So how do we get from here? Teshima liked Hotaru very much, Hotaru liked Teshima very much, but Yuuka also liked Teshima very much. Unfortunately Kaname liked Yuuka very much but he decided to support whatever decision she made even after revealing his feeling to her. Hotaru was perplexed and kept asking the boss for advices in between their quality time together on the house's porch, drinking beer and eating snacks and doing a lot of silly things. The boss had life lessons because of his living together with Hotaru and used them to make decisions about his marriage, he also enjoyed the moment of slacking off with Hotaru and calling her AhoMiya (a nickname that apparently fits Hotaru very well, plus she accepted it right away)
After some episodes, finally Teshima and Hotaru told each other about their feelings and had a few dates. Teshima was a rather stoic guy with a face like brick wall, one could never tell what he was thinking as he had no reaction to whatever silly scenes that was done by Hotaru. I was even begin to think he actually had no interest with the girl.
Casting failure? How dare you! Even KimuTaku wants Ayase!
even after a real date and a consensual kiss later, still a forced happy face from him...
and talking about wrong impression, i don't know where to put this, don't care anyway, so here it is.
seriously Futa, just jump the guy! Gender isn't that important anyway
Futatsugi's remarks always gave me the impression that he was in love with the boss and had nothing else in his mind but the boss's best interest... oh em gee. I have to admit that Fujiki is indeed beautiful even for a man... but oh em gee!
And let's get back at our main characters.
Yuuka of course, being an admirable girl like she was, decided to bail out, congratulated Hotaru, and moved on. A super gold chance for Kaname to slip in, and that was a very good timing! At first i wanted to throw him bricks, but later he became somewhat sweet even though he made a lot of desperate moves. Poor thing.
Wait, what happened to the boss? He finally agreed to divorce his wife after some events with Hotaru. And we found out that he wasn't that boring at all! He gave the right response into every of Hotaru's weird habit and antic.
He got locked in the bathroom... silly boss
Great, Kaname with Yuuka, Teshima with Hotaru, the boss finally let go of his wrecked marriage, so everybody went happy, right? the ending was near, right? Big NO.
Teshima caught Ayase lying to him by saying she lived with an old woman named Otaka (a pun from Takano) and sometime later he had a good natural expression! you know what, the only natural expression he had was the hate. Apparently he's the possesive type that a playful chat of Hotaru vs the boss granted the girl the silent treatment.
Crazy, just crazy, watch out girl. He'd hit you someday and you'd have to run to your girlfriend who'd have sexuality crisis but then you'd return later only to find out he'd have killed himself and you're already pregnant.... oh wait, that's a different story lol
here's Teshima's doppelganger, the mighty Nishikido Ryo (please don't use the 10 inch pole, he won't hit you anymore, he's a dad now!)
And later after being forced to choose, Hotaru left the house and lived together with Teshima. She gradually became burdened and unhappy. According to the boss, she's in love with the love itself. True enough. She kept missing the boss and after a few events, Teshima left her and she moved out again. After a few events again, she finally reunited with the boss.
Actually it wasn't that eventful, but who cares, all is well in the world as long as the boss keeps her laziness in check. A little bit of cliffhanger as all that girl wanted was both of them to stay at home doing their routines. I'd say that was a bit of adjustment disorder, she could never have any new environment.
relations diagram, just because
and no, i don't believe what the boss and Hotaru had could be called as romance. Not an ounce of it. none really.
