Natsume Yuujinchou is basically a story about a boy (Natsume), his fat cat (Nyanko Sensei/ Nyankichi/ Nyangoro/ Ponta), and a lot of things around him
that cat is so fat, how come he could tell other people to go on a diet "just like him"? he's not slim at all!
actually his true form is elegant, a wolf with a very long hairy tail (it does beg questions such as 'why a wolf took a cat as its temporary form?')
but most of the time, he enjoyed being a cat too much and became so silly

The anime's mostly silly for Nyanko Sensei, but it could get real sad, or real touching sometimes. The artworks were simple, sometimes they varied the characters by using masks, but in the end, it's the story that's important
most favorite episode would be the last one, where everyone gathered for a game of stepping in someone's shadow. It got messy when the fat cat went excited and changed to his true form. And it got even messier when Misuzu joined in (he's as big as a temple! stupid game! he could step on everyone). It's fun, no trouble lurking at all, and when Natsume finally realized he had a lot of friends, i could feel some kind of relief.
and i don't know how they did it, but their way of story telling and the characters themselves made you feel involved. He's not whiny, not strong either, but i couldn't really hate him (though i wish for him to be stronger), and i got happy when he made a lot of friends. Somehow i think it was made so that you can't leave him alone, and it hit really deep...
this is how a story should be told imo.
was it just me or there were some pairing hints here?
